Boy Choristers

Ely Cathedral’s boy choristers are part of a tradition stretching back nearly 500 years. The 22 boys aged 7 – 13 rehearse daily and sing five or six services every week, as well as undertaking countless recordings, TV and radio broadcasts and foreign tours. A flexible approach to boarding at King’s Ely Junior allows the choristers to receive an unparalleled musical and academic education, with ample time for sport, relaxation and fun!

Lower Voices

The backbone of Cathedral Choir is a team of six professional singers, the Lay Clerks. All have a high level of musical experience and vocal ability, and many have moved on from Ely to pursue careers as professional soloists. The choir is supplemented on Sundays and for major events by a large pool of altos, tenors and basses, the Expanded Choir. Experienced singers are always welcome to audition, and these extra singers also act as deputies from time to time.
